Whilst landlords and social housing authorities have a duty of care to ensure that any defects are resolved, it is the responsibility of the resident to report any issues that arise within their home. This includes any faulty or damaged facilities or assets.

Each landlord will have a different tenancy agreement with occupants, outlining residents responsibilities. Tenants are provided with a handbook, where they can find out about their responsibilities as a tenant and information about how to report an issue within their living space.

Other parties that can report repairs include neighbouring tenants, the tenant’s own representative, members of the public, the police and local authorities.
