Joe Ibrahim, Painting and Projects Manager, chose to lead the painting project to help the charity Wide Horizons.
Wide Horizons allows children, whether disabled, disadvantaged or from inner-city locations to experience life-changing adventures in a safe and positive setting – building their confidence and creating happier, healthier young people with a brighter outlook.
Wide Horizons has a rich heritage dating back to 1929 and have always been at the forefront of outdoor education. Axis has supported Wide Horizons for quite some time and over 30 members of staff volunteered to help out for this project. Here at Axis, we understand the importance of giving back to the community which is why we give all of our staff a volunteering day that they can use how they like.
The work included predecoration repairs and painting and was basically a full refurbishment project. Some of the volunteers were skilled workers from our Paintings and Projects team and some were unskilled in this department but all our volunteers worked hard to get the job done.
After completion of the project Neil Munro, Fundraising Manager at Wide Horizons, said: “We would like to say a very big thank you to the Axis volunteers who redecorated the dining room and two lounges at Wide Horizons’ adventure learning facility in Wrotham. The work was hugely improved our building and created a nicer environment for the children that we host, which shortly after you completed the refurbishment, included the charity CHIVA who provide health care for children and young people with HIV”.
Over the last three years, the Axis Foundation has donated over 19k to Wide Horizons as we appreciate the work they do for children from all different backgrounds and walks of life. The charity also runs work experience and employment projects that increase a participant’s chances of finding employment.
Axis also participated in a Housing Challenge to raise money for Wide Horizons, read more about them, here.
