Project Details

Axis was commissioned for a university refurbishment project at historic building Devonport House, by the University of Greenwich. Devonport House is a bespoke modern conversion of a listed building, within a conservation area. It provides 125 rooms to accommodate students studying at the university.

Our team took on a wide scope of internal and external works. Externally, we delivered a flat roof replacement which included programme of tiling. We repaired the slate roof of the property alongside the replacement of Portland stone dentils. The team also renewed the lead work on parapet walls, cornices, gullies and flat roof dormers. We repaired the existing box sash windows and doors with a timber care system. This was in preparation for the full redecoration of the windows, doors, external fascias, guttering and boundary railings.

As part of the university refurbishment project, we also provided mechanical and electrical works inside the property. Our team installed both the kitchen and bathroom in each section for student use. Other internal refurbishment work included full boiler replacements, removing the old boilers and fitting new ones as standard. Both sets of interior works came alongside a programme of plumbing.

One of the challenging aspects that we faced within the project was the scaffolding. We had to erect bespoke scaffolding to all facades and chimneys to complete the external repair and restoration works.
