Axis was employed for this Grade II listed restoration project at the former City of London School for Boys. This landmark building on the Thames in London is located between John Carpenter Street and Unilever House on Victoria Embankment. Our heritage division worked to revive all the old oak woodwork in the Great Hall and surrounding areas inside the building.
The team restored the external gas lamps at the main entrance, as well as cleaned and revived the courtyard entrance gates. As part of the Grade II restoration, we carefully cleaned the original woodwork using appropriate solvents. We repaired damaged woodwork and, using traditional French Polish hand finish, ensured the old colour and patina on the work was not lost or changed.
The main entrance of the former school is Grade II listed. Here, we carefully cleaned and restored the iconic gas lamps. We also cleaned and revived the courtyard entrance gates stripping back existing varnish and polishing the wood as well as reviving brass work.
