Project Details

Axis was employed by our long-term partner, Swan Housing, for this roof renewal project. Our works began in April 2021, at a two-storey concrete block on Clark Street, London. The residential apartments were originally built around the 1960s and this project came under the Decent Homes Programme.

Our Housing division began the roof renewal project by removing the old, damaged roof. This included the felt roof system on the whole roof area of the block. The team then installed a new ICO insulated roof system and followed this with key clamp handrails. The team used access tower scaffolding and handrails for all works within the project.

With the property’s roof at the end of its economic life, it was imperative that we renewed it as required by the client. Several apartments had been impacted by leaks, which were causing damage to the substrate. Our team worked to make the block watertight. We were proactive in offering a solution and mobilising our workforce quickly and efficiently.

Project Challenges

The team faced a couple of challenges, including the impact of COVID-19. We also saw brief delays from the material supply chain due to Brexit. Because of this, our contract managers kept the client constantly updated on any delays. Our dedicated resident liaison officer relayed this information to residents.

Swan Housing Association joined Sanctuary as a subsidiary in February 2024. With Swan as a subsidiary, Sanctuary now manages around 120,000 units of accommodation across England and Scotland.
