Axis and Richmond Furniture Scheme Unite for a Transformative Community Project

The Richmond Furniture Scheme, a local charity dedicated to providing essential items to newly housed refugees and disadvantaged individuals, has recently undergone a transformative redecoration project, thanks to the support of Axis employee Michael Burke, and his team of Axis Painters.

The Richmond Furniture Scheme, situated in Twickenham, serves the London Boroughs of Richmond Upon Thames and Wandsworth. With a mission to assist vulnerable households, the charity not only supplies essential furniture but also aims to create an environment that fosters dignity and comfort for those in need.

In the year 2021 to 2022 alone, the Richmond Furniture Scheme made a substantial impact on the local community. The scheme aided 329 households in need, supported 55 volunteers, refurbished, and recycled 94 tonnes of furniture, and ensured that those in need received the necessary essentials to lead dignified lives.

Last year, the Richmond Furniture Scheme received support from the Axis Foundation. We contributed £5,625 to the charity’s Kitchen Starter Kit Programme, which equips families, often coming from unfurnished accommodations, with essential items necessary for cooking and dining.

We were delighted that they approached Axis again to seek assistance with redecorating their building’s exterior. The project, which began on the 1st of August aimed to enhance the external appearance of the building located in Twickenham. The collaboration saw the charity funding the required materials, while Axis provided the labour free of charge.

Lucy Stepan, the volunteer coordinator from the Richmond Furniture Scheme, expressed her gratitude for the remarkable transformation in a heartfelt statement: I just wanted to write and thank you and your team for doing the most amazing job of painting our building. It looks stunning (and blinding in the sunlight!) and we are all totally in awe of the work the Axis guys have done. They worked incredibly hard and were a joy to have here. Thanks to them our building looks brand new and has spurred us on to clear up the yard, get rid of unwanted signage and replace broken planters.

Our team’s collective efforts contributed to the revitalization of the charity’s premises, ensuring it remains a welcoming and appealing space for its beneficiaries.
