Project Details
Axis undertook a residential air source heat pump (ASHP) installation for our client Eastlight Community Homes for social housing residents in Braintree, Essex. This initiative aimed to reduce energy consumption and energy bills for residents.
The properties, owned and managed by Eastlight Community Homes, included three family homes and one bungalow housing an elderly resident. The previous system was outdated, lacked advanced controls, and operated inefficiently, often creating excessive noise.
We began with thorough property surveys, focusing on heat loss, radiator capacity, and pipework requirements. Performance projections were developed based on Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) data, enabling us to create a custom design. This included enhanced heating zones, expanded pipework and larger radiators to support efficient heating distribution.
Our M&E team removed the outdated ASHP units and replaced them with state-of-the-art equipment, including the Vaillant aroTHERM ASHP, uniSTOR heat pump unvented cylinder, buffer unit and sensoCOMFORT controls. These modern features include remote access, real-time temperature sensors, and thermostats for improved usability. We also installed Grundfos pumps and Honeywell valves to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
The new ASHP system, with a high Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) at a 45°C flow temperature, offers efficient heating and hot water with real-time control adjustments. This reduces energy usage, cutting heating costs by an estimated 1,400 kwh annually.
Benefits
- Minimised energy consumption
- Reduced energy bills
- Future proofing
- Uninterrupted heating and hot water service
- Reduced carbon footprint
Residential Care
Our team kept in regular contact with our residents before and during works, we also had a supervisor on-site to communicate and answer any questions raised.
“It was all good, professional and friendly we were always pre warned about work since the install. It’s been very warm here, best we have had in the 11 years we’ve been here”
Client Relationship
Under the 2-year renewables contract with an indicative value of £500,000 per annum, we will be decommissioning existing oil, gas and electric systems and installing new Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) systems. Since September 2023, we have completed a total of 6,114 services.
