Axis & Notting Hill Genesis Complete Garden Makeover at Garrick Close

Volunteers Transform Garrick Close with Over 2,000 Spring Bulbs and Garden Enhancements

On the 31st October, 11 Axis volunteers completed a garden makeover at Garrick Close in partnership with our client, Notting Hill Genesis.

Teams came together to plant over 2,000 spring bulbs, build woodland habitats, clear woodland paths, and erect bird and bat boxes in the outdoor space in Ealing. Only planning to plant 1,500 spring bulbs, the teams worked hard and exceeded all expectations!

Not only were we able to provide volunteers on the day, but we also donated a generous £6,000 towards the project to help purchase tools, planters, and bulbs as part of our social value commitments. The donation was in accordance with our 2-stage plan to develop the outside area now, and again in the new year.

The day was amazing with 28 people in attendance, including volunteers from Axis, NHG and local residents. The cutting down of dead shrubs to create log stacking areas, garden areas, and clear paths has helped contribute to a more enjoyable greenspace for Garrick Close residents!

Mandy Worster, Volunteer Programme Manager for Notting Hill Genesis, said ‘To our wonderful volunteers, a big thank you to everyone who turned out to help for our first volunteering day. The day was a huge success!’

Axis’ Callie-Marie Sargeant, RLO, said, ‘The volunteering day was a wholesome day. We lucked out with good weather and a great turnout in number of residents that joined us for this transformation gardening project! It was also an honour to graft with my team and meet other members of the Axis family, and our client NHG. The works should really add some vibrancy to a beautiful conservation area for all of the residents and wildlife to enjoy and thrive. It’s a rewarding and exciting project to be part of with my team.’

Axis’ Florin Surdu, Site Manager added, ‘To be able to volunteer at Garrick Close and make a difference for the community, it’s an amazing feeling and I would definitely repeat the experience. To see so many people and children happy, you realise that it was worth every minute spent there. Looking forward to the next one!’

A huge well done and thank you to all involved, with a special mention to the following Axis volunteers:
