Cambridge City Council and Axis Europe are working to deliver a Net Zero Retrofit Project
Project Details
Cambridge City Council and Axis Europe are working together to deliver a Net Zero Retrofit Pilot Project with the retrofit of houses and flats on Ross Street and Coldhams Grove.
The aim of this project is to provide healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient housing for Cambridge residents. Fifty properties will undergo the whole-house retrofitting and Axis has now completed two pilot properties, with works underway on the street.
Our site team is delivering a programme of works that includes insulation measures for external walls, floor and the roof at rafter level. We will install triple glazed windows as well as highly insulated external doors.
The team will install new Air source heat pumps (ASHPs), alongside efficient hot water storage and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR). We will also provide roof mounted photovoltaic panels (PV).
Benefits
This innovative retrofit pilot will deliver substantial energy efficiency improvements and create warmer, healthier council homes that are economical to run.
- Improved energy efficiency
- Lower maintenance costs
- High performance system
- EPC rating
Challenges
Axis is tasked with bringing all of the properties up to EnerPHit standards. The EnerPHit standard is a certification for energy retrofits that uses Passive House principles but is designed for existing buildings.
This is a project unique in its challenge of delivering whole-house retrofits while residents are in situ. Our team includes a dedicated resident liaison officer and contract managers who work on site to ensure all communication is relayed effectively and resident queries are answered quickly.
