Axis Elves Support Peabody’s Toy & Food Hamper Appeal
Supporting Annual Christmas Initiatives in the Local Community
A team of Axis Supervisors and Operatives volunteered to support Peabody’s Annual Toy & Food Hamper Appeal by delivering hampers to residents in need.
The impact of the pandemic, together with cuts to Universal Credit, and rising fuel, energy and food prices means that many people will be forced to make difficult choices between heating, eating and paying for their essential living costs and the prospect of Christmas sadly offers little to be excited about.
Each year we donate £2,000 towards Peabody’s appeal which helps make things just a little bit easier and also ensures as many children as possible have a visit from Father Christmas and gifts to wake up to on Christmas morning. To help make this happen, Axis Supervisors Peter Cox, Paul Gaskell, Michael Elliott and Demetrakis Georgiou, and Plumber Daniel De Cunha wrapped gifts and delivered hampers to 67 households in and around Hackney on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th December.
Commenting on the experience Michael said, “Having performed the Christmas Toy Appeal for the last 4 years it was an honour to be asked again to undertake the task. The Christmas spirit within the team was very high with the client appreciating all our efforts”.
Peter added, “It’s been a pleasure to assist delivering the presents to the young children and parents. Being on the journey with my nephew Charlie makes you so aware of sadness and joy and seeing the delight on their faces was uplifting”.
We have received very positive feedback from the client including a message from Jeanette Manu, Children’s Community Programme Manager at Peabody who said, “Honestly, I don’t know where to begin! Since the moment the Axis team arrived the room was full of enthusiasm and full of Christmas cheer. When the team arrived we were far behind the finishing line. They kindly volunteered their wrapping skills which enabled us to meet our target for the day. They were so thoughtful, far exceeding my expectations, they went above and beyond the call of duty by ensuring all gifts were wrapped and delivered.
Their act of kindness may have been small, but the impact of their involvement has made a huge difference to my team and the residents as a whole. Your support means a lot to us and we certainly wouldn’t have been able to complete this year’s task without the help of your team”.
Fantastic work all! Thanks to everyone who gave their time to make Christmas that bit more magical this year.
