On Friday 23rd June, 6 volunteers visited our Corporate Charity Partner, Demelza’s Hospice in Sittingbourne to help get the garden ready for summer.

Axis’  volunteers spent the day with Demelza’s Gardener and helpined with a range of different tasks. Nicole Torroba, our Quantity Surveyor, commented on her experience and said, Due to the fantastic weather, we were given a task to do some gardening with the help of Terri who was in charge of the garden section of the hospice to ensure that the kids will enjoy the sight of flowers and plants. Me and the team were clearing out any weeds and dead plants, to plant new flowers for the summer. This has given me an insight with gardening and it has also enhanced my skills. What I enjoyed the most was choosing the flowers and re-planting them on the flower beds. Overall, this has been such an amazing experience and I will definitely do it again”.

Khalil Ramjhan, our Gas Engineer, added, “It was a lovely day spent outside in the fresh air meeting new faces and more importantly for a good cause. I would definitely recommend anyone that hasn’t used their volunteering day to do so!”

Since the garden is often used by children and families who visit the hospice it is important to maintain the garden to keep it accessible for everyone to use in a safe manner. The team did this by removing any overgrown areas so that the pathways were clear and easy to use.
