Axis volunteers recently helped to redecorate a community hall at local mental health charity, Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham.

On Tuesday 15th October the following Axis team members used their volunteering days to help paint and redecorate the community hall at MIND. Projects team: Painting Director, Marc Jeffrey, Contracts Manager, Jacky Prime, Painting Estimator, Sean Gleeson, Apprentice Master, Michael Burke, and Apprentice Painters, Harry Gibbons & Aaran Neville.

Mind are a charity who provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

As a result of Axis’ recent Head Office move to Newham, the volunteers wanted the opportunity to give back to the local community. For this reason the team spent the day painting the walls of the community hall. The hall is used for a number of activities including music and movement therapy and training sessions for members of the Tower Hamlets and Newham community. Community areas like these are vital to the community, they provide a place for residents to connect and socialise.

Michael commented on his experience saying, “Myself and the team helped out painting a new partition for the centre. The team enjoyed being in a different environment to our usual day to day jobs”.

Michelle Kabia, CEO of Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham added,

I am delighted with the work of our volunteers. The completion of the decoration and the installation of the door has made a terrific impact on our service. As a front-line charity resources are tight, and we often have to make choices about how and where we prioritise expenditure. Having access to professional teams who can improve our environment is wonderful and it improves the overall impact of our service.
