Our Future with HVO Fuel
HVO (Hydro-treated vegetable oil) fuel is a low carbon, low emissions, fossil-free and sustainable alternative to conventional fossil diesel. In June 2023 we conducted a trial to monitor the efficiency and cost of running a welfare unit on HVO compared to diesel. Since June 2023 both Slagrove Place and Kensington Palace Gardens sites have transitioned to running the welfare units on HVO. The switch will reduce site emissions by up to 90%. In addition, HVO is a cleaner burning fuel so this fuel switch also reduces emissions of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter, resulting in improved air quality.
We used 1,500L of Diesel (April22-March23), emitting 3,768KG of net CO2 (This is equivalent to 2 passenger’s return flights from London to Mexico City).
We could save on average 3,392KG of net CO2 from switching to HVO.
Furthermore, switching to HVO fuel is cost-saving. For every 1,500 litres ordered we save approximately £750. It also eliminates the process of paying to dispose of the diesel bottles responsibly.
The Future
We aim to run all or as many of our welfare units on HVO fuel. Instead of ordering diesel please start using HVO fuel for a more sustainable future.
