Jack O’Sullivan is a third year Electrical Apprentice based at our Gatwick office at Axis CLC. He is undertaking a 3-to-4-year electrical apprenticeship through East Surrey College, developing practical expertise in the electrical industry. Jack is dedicated, motivated, and committed to continuous learning, with a strong focus on supporting others and contributing positive to his team and the wider organisation.
How would you describe your experience at the company since you started?
My experience at Axis CLC has been amazing, I have got loads of different experience from all sorts of jobs. I have got the best from the company as we work at commercial sites and domestic sites, and I get involved in loads of work and I’m always busy.
How have you grown personally and professionally during your apprenticeship?
I have grown professionally as I have had the opportunity to speak to clients, organise and prepare the job with my colleagues and make sure everything is done safe and to the best of my ability.
How do you balance hands-on work with classroom learning, and how has that supported your development?
I am doing an Axis CLC apprenticeship where I go into college once a week and then get to work for the rest of the week. This is perfect as I learn about all the theory side at college and get to know why I’m installing it and testing. This also will benefit me in the future.
Are there any mentors / team members who have supported you along the way? How have they supported you?
The people I would love to shout out would be Terry Cave (Contracts Manager), who has helped me along the way and always supported me. He always picks up the phone when I need to call and have a chat, he always makes sure everything is organised and checks in with me weekly to see how I’m doing with college and outstanding bits.
Another person I would love to shout out would be Gary Cave who has always supported me and taught me loads. He is always pushing me and giving me more responsibility.
What skills are you most excited to continue developing during your apprenticeship?
The skills I am more excited for is to manage my own jobs, be more independent and to get the jobs done to perfection.
Do you feel there is a clear path for progression within the company? If so, what does that look like for you?
I feel there is a clear path for me with Axis CLC as discussed with Terry when I am fully qualified, I can be managing my own jobs and processing through the company and work my way up.
How would you describe the company culture in three words?
I would describe the company as: organised, hard-working and welcoming.
What makes you proud to work here?
I am proud to work for Axis CLC as it is a big strong company, and I am grateful to be working for a great community and company.
What do you think the biggest benefit of being an apprentice is with us?
The best thing being an apprentice is that I learn loads, get loads of opportunities to progress and have a lot of people that have my back and want to see me do well and progress.
What are your career aspirations, and how is the company helping you work towards them?
I would love to work my way up at the company and work harder each year so my colleagues can see me working hard, be willing and get better.
What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship with us?
I would highly recommend any apprenticeships as there is a variety of great work and ticks all the boxes for the for the portfolio at college.
