Responsive repairs, sometimes referred to as emergency repairs, are repairs that are carried out to resolve and restore defected assets back to full working condition. This could involve fixing the asset or replacing it entirely.

This type of repair work occurs on an ad-hoc basis and is not included within a planned or cyclical maintenance programme. Rather than occurring on a scheduled basis, it simply works in response to reported breakdown to quickly rectify issues as they occur.

Responsive repairs can be grouped into two main categories: emergency and urgent. Emergency repairs are generally required to be resolved within 24 hours, whilst urgent and routine repair work may occur within the short term future of a few days to a week.
