Inspiring Students with a Construction Taster Day at Risedale School
Recently, team members from our CLC Catterick office visited Risedale School in Catterick Garrison to deliver a Construction Taster Day. We delivered this event as part of Risedale’s Work Experience Week, providing students with insight into various industries.
Attendees were given demonstrations of various trade skills, followed with a chance to try themselves including:
- Tiling
- Plastering
- Connecting light switches and sockets
- An introduction to various pipework and boiler components and a chance to try working with pipes, cutters and bending equipment
Following these demonstrations, we gave students an overview of what life is like as an apprentice at Axis CLC, delivered by two of our plumbing apprentices. Over 30 students attended the event, showing great enthusiasm and engagement. Following the session, several students were identified for their aptitude and work ethic and have been invited to interview for apprenticeships beginning in September.
This session was part of our ongoing partnership with Risedale School. We previously delivered a similar session last year and attended a careers day at the school in February. This collaboration has allowed us to provide continual information and insight to students throughout their education journey to inspire them into the industry. Having students demonstrate the interest and aptitude to be considered for apprenticeships at Axis CLC highlights the formative impact of our school engagement programme.
We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Risedale School to provide students with opportunities and experience to equip them for long-term success.
