Supporting the DWP's Restart Programme to Help Young People into Work
We have recently supported several events in connection with the Department of Work and Pensions’ Restart Programme, which provides a range of resources and advice to support adults who are out of work to get back into sustainable employment. The Restart programme is a national programme, delivered across the UK in partnership with a range of providers.
We first joined a Careers Festival organised by Ingeus, who deliver the programme in Greater Manchester. This festival welcomed individuals from their 18-24 year-old cohort to hear about a range of career paths. Team members from our Warrington Division were able to provide insight into the range of career paths available at Axis CLC and help the attendees to turn their career aspirations into plans!
We then supported a session hosted by Maximus UK, who deliver the programme in West Yorkshire. This session allowed attendees to receive one-to-one careers support. In addition to promoting careers at Axis CLC, we were also able to offer general careers support, including advice on CV writing, cover letters, interview skills, and the broader soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
Finally, we joined Maximus UK for a Community Partnership Networking Event, where we spoke with employment advisors working on the Restart Scheme across West Yorkshire. We engaged in open and honest dialogue around the barriers many people face when trying to enter or return to employment, including for individuals for whom English is a second language.
Supporting the Restart Programme has allowed us to engage meaningfully with young people across the North of England to understand the challenges they face and support them to pursue long-term employment. These events highlight the importance of in-depth discussion to understand the needs of individuals and how they differ across locations.
