Axis Apprentices Transform St. George’s Court Garden

On the 7th and 8th of March, Axis initiated a garden transformation project at St. George’s Court, for our client Brentwood Borough Council. Apprentices James Hedges, Carter Collins, and Harrison Vidal volunteered their time and efforts to contribute to the community-driven initiative.

The project came about after we installed a new District Heat Network (DHN) system and new Heat Interface Units (HIUs) at St George’s Court, sheltered housing scheme. In a bid to mitigate the visual impact of the unit, the team liaised with the residents and agreed to install fencing and flowerbeds around it as a goodwill gesture.

This move not only served the practical purpose of concealing the tank, but also significantly improved its overall aesthetic.

Led by Contract Manager, Michael Martino and Site Manager, Roger Thwaites, the Apprentices completed the works across two days. It was a great opportunity to apply their skills and contribute meaningfully to a real-world project. Michael commented, “The works all went as planned, and the residents are delighted with the outcome. The resident from Flat 15, Jean, is over the moon as now she does not look at the tank from her lounge window”.

Another resident, Linda said, “It is so much better to look out on. I’ve been watching the process from start to finish and it’s been brilliant. I’m really impressed with the work they’ve carried out”.

With the combined efforts of the team, the garden transformation project at St. George’s Court not only improved the infrastructure but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration. Well done team!
