Women in Construction Event Inspires Residents at Lewisham Park Towers

Event Details:

Residents of Lewisham Park Towers gathered recently for a special event aimed at inspiring women to pursue careers in the construction industry. We hosted the Axis Women in Construction event which saw enthusiastic participation from the community, with residents keenly engaging in discussions, seeking tips, and exploring opportunities within Axis.

Wendy, a resident at Lewisham Park Towers warmly spoke of the team stating:

Axis is like a family; they treat us more than just residents.

Our event featured women in senior positions at Axis such as a Divisional Manager, Business Support Director, Operations Director, Senior Resident Liaison Officer, Head of Community Investment and Contracts Manager, all of whom shared their personal journeys and experiences at Axis, highlighting the significant strides women have made in the construction industry.

Carole, a Senior Resident Liaison Officer, reflected on her 25-year career, noting the transformation she has witnessed: “When I started in the industry 25 years ago, there were 60 men working and I was the only woman. Now, I’m surrounded by strong female leaders, and Lewisham Park Towers is the first site where it’s female-led.”

A highlight of the event was the inspiring story of Rositsa, a Divisional Manager who began her career as a Resident Liaison Officer (RLO) at Axis. She climbed her way up the Axis ladder, and now she is working full time whilst pursuing a master’s degree that is funded by Axis. Carole praised Rositsa’s influence saying, “it’s good to have a positive female role model who encourages everyone to be the best they can be.”

Axis have always strongly supported women in the company, Sarah, a Senior Resident Liaison Officer with 10 years of experience shared her story of balancing a career with family life stating that “Axis have always been flexible with my career, particularly when I moved from full time to part time so that I could raise my kid.”

Our team engaged with residents about current opportunities within Axis. During this discussion, an 18-year-old attendee expressed interest in gaining work experience and advice on career opportunities. Kellie, Head of Community Investment, offered her guidance, explaining the various apprenticeships available in different trades and business support roles. She also offered summer work experiences, showcasing Axis’ commitment to nurturing young talent and providing real-world experience.

Overall, the Axis Women in Construction event was a resounding success, showcasing Axis’ commitment to diversity and the empowerment of women in the construction industry.
