Axis completed the emergency cladding removal project at a seven-story building, Success House, on behalf of our longstanding client Peabody. Peabody raised this project due to a failed BRE Fire Integrity Test and industry safety concerns following the Grenfell Tower fire.

Project Details

Success House is a seven-story building comprising of 45 properties, fronting The Old Kent Road and Coopers Road. Because of its location, the building sits alongside the main highway of a densely populated inner-city area, so access had to be carefully managed.

Our Housing Division carried out cladding removal works in two separate phases. In the first phase, we stripped all of the existing cladding and timber straight away, to reduce the risk of fire. To create a waterproof seal for the building our team applied a Tyvek membrane, whilst the sub-structure was exposed.

Originally there were two different types of cladding – Alucobond (A) and timber Shiplap. During the second phase of works, we replaced this older cladding with Alucobond (A2) and Marley Equitone. Both are fire retardant and fully compliant with building regulations. Our team introduced Metsec fixing rails as well as new Rockwool Duoslab insulation. The insulation contains integral components that are vital in protecting a building from the environment.

Throughout all stages of the project, our team carried out rigorous joint inspections alongside the management consultant and principal designer. For external validation, a separate company was employed to carry out independent inspections and reports. This ensured the highest level of quality and adherence to specifications and regulations.
