We recently celebrated National Apprenticeship Week, working with our clients to connect with local residents

Recently, we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by providing education and support to our local communities to encourage more people to consider apprenticeships. Apprenticeships make up over 10% of our workforce, and last year Axis CLC welcomed 51 new apprenticeships. Making these pathways visible is key to supporting our communities and continuing our own growth.

Opportunities Fair with Paddington Development Trust and WCC

Our Social Impact Coordinator attended an Opportunities Fair organised by the Paddington Development Trust and Westminster City Council on behalf of Axis CLC. Along with several other local employers, we were able to inform attendees about our apprenticeship programme and the potential career paths available to apprentices.

Greenwich Apprenticeship Summit

Our Social Impact Team attended the Greenwich Apprenticeship Summit, held at the historic Royal Arsenal, to encourage Greenwich residents to consider apprenticeships as a valuable career path. With a diverse range of attendees, with varying levels of experience in the construction field, we were able to make meaningful connections with motivated local people who are eager to pursue careers in the field.

Clarion Apprenticeship Event

Our Apprentice Mentor attended an apprenticeship event with Clarion to connect with young people interested in apprenticeships to help them consider their options. Attendees were able to meet a variety of Clarion’s supply chain partners to learn about the opportunities they provide and consider a range of career paths.

Peabody Apprenticeship Awards

We also attended the third annual Peabody Apprenticeship Awards, which celebrate supply chain partners, Peabody academy members who have exceptional apprenticeship programmes or individuals who have succeeded in their apprenticeships. Held at Peabody’s London headquarters, the event offered the opportunity to celebrate the work of companies and individuals in the field, and to connect with like-minded individuals and organisations who understand the importance and value of delivering quality apprenticeship programmes.

Thamesmead Peabody Apprenticeship Showcase

Hosted at the Nest, a local library and community space in Thamesmead, the Peabody Apprenticeship Showcase brought together employers and organisations that provide apprenticeships to educate local residents about the opportunities available to them. We spoke to a number of young people and their families, explaining the career paths available through Axis and the potential they bring for future growth.

Our team also offered attendees the opportunity to have professional headshots taken, which they can then use for LinkedIn profiles to help them secure employment and training opportunities. Attendees expressed their gratitude for this opportunity, with several remarking on how they hadn’t had a quality headshot taken since primary school photos.

These events provide invaluable opportunities to engage with our local communities and raise awareness of the apprenticeship opportunities available in the construction industry.

Our Social Impact Coordinator commented that “National Apprenticeship week is an important time for those seeking alternative routes into education and employment. It was great to support so many events over the week where a real eagerness and enthusiasm could be seen from attendees. I hope NAW provided understanding for the variety of apprenticeships options available and has inspired many people to consider an apprenticeship route!”

We are proud to have been able to engage with a number of our clients and other supply chain partners to deliver invaluable apprenticeship education in our local communities.
