Supporting Local People in the Waltham Forest Area Through Volunteering at Highams Park Food Bank
On the 17th September, 3 Axis volunteers supported a foodbank in the Waltham Forest Area, helping to distribute fresh food to 91 beneficiaries in the community.
Highams Park Food Bank, also known as the Hub, regularly supports local families, helping to ensure no one in the community goes hungry. The Hub is a vital lifeline for many families, providing not only fresh food and essential household supplies, but also hope and a strong sense of community.
Through its two weekly food collection days and free community café, the food bank supports local people experiencing financial difficulties.
The Hub also operates on a zero-waste policy, ensuring that any surplus food is donated to other local food banks or repurposed as animal feed.
During the volunteer day, Axis employees:
- Sorted food donations into categories
- Assisted with food distribution for beneficiaries
- Spent time talking with members of the community who struggle with isolation and loneliness
