Project Details

The Metropolitan Police appointed Axis’ specialist, security-cleared team to conduct a major re-stack project at their four-storey office building, Cobalt Square, in Vauxhall. Our client wanted to maximise their building’s potential and promote open-plan working.

So, on the ground floor, we converted multiple internal offices to open plan. We also fitted bi-folding walls to create flexible working space. Here a small tea and coffee point became a large kitchen/dining area.

On the first, second and third floors, we also converted many small offices into an open-plan workspace. Additionally, we created secure rooms with soundproof walls and doors, meeting rooms and four refurbished tea rooms. In the basement, we created practical locker and storage rooms, constructing new walls, ceilings and flooring as well as installing new lighting.

As part of this major re-stack project, our M&E team installed new mains power supplies to all areas. They also installed new air conditioning and ventilation systems and fitted a specialist extract system within the workshop. Our Painting teams redecorated throughout and also laid new carpets. Met Police staff occupied the entire building during the 16-week re-stack project. And so we focussed on keeping disruption to a minimum for them.

Axis has successfully delivered various projects on the Met Police Estate to over 64 of their 200+ premises; all in live operational environments in high-security locations. In 2018, Axis was selected as one of seven contractors for a new Met Police four-year framework to deliver improvement projects in London and the South East.
