Axis has been selected on a Thurrock Council contract as the preferred bidder for the external refurbishments of nine tower blocks in Grays, Essex.

The Thurrock council contract will be completed across a 24-month period and comes under the South East Consortium’s framework for Internal and External Building Works, Lot 1b – Major Refurbishments.

The scope of works includes the removal of the existing cladding system and replacement with modern external wall insulation, as well as the removal of existing roof coverings for a new bituminous membrane system. Along with the provision of roof safety systems, we are tasked with the replacement of all windows and the addition of modern, open space designed canopies.

Our team will also redecorate internal communal areas and provide external security lighting, as well as carrying out low-level landscaping at the base of the tower blocks. Further works include the provision of smoke ventilation to the communal lobbies and thermographic surveys to be carried out before and after the works to demonstrate that no cold bridging is present in the buildings.

As part of Thurrock Council’s contract – and Social Value Framework – Axis will be required to implement a range of initiatives, including local employment and training, and environmental sustainability in their use of products and working practices. This fits in line with our own values. Community investment has always been at the forefront of our work; giving back to the communities, residents and areas in which we carry out our work. As a responsible business, we continue to strive for the best practices in sustainability to ensure that the environment is maintained by using sustainable products and working practices.
