Supporting Waltham Forest Students with the VIP Next Steps Insight Programme
This summer, Axis CLC hosted two VIP Next Step Insight days with students from the Waltham Forest area, offering professional career advice and raising awareness of opportunities within the property maintenance industry.
On the 6th July we welcomed 21 Year 10 students from Chingford Foundation High School to a careers workshop at our Stratford Office. They took part in practical challenges to develop their employability skills, while learning more about Axis CLC.
Following the success of this event, we were invited by Local London (an organisation supporting skills development in East London) to deliver a second session on the 18th August. 8 students, aged 16-18, who were at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) attended from 4 schools across Waltham Forest. Our Social Value team highlighted the wide range of career and apprenticeship pathways available nationwide at Axis CLC.
Across both days, students had the opportunity to develop their teamwork and verbal communication skills through a group challenge. Working in small teams, they designed and built a free-standing structure using spaghetti and marshmallows, with each material assigned a cost. Students collaborated effectively to budget, solve problems and complete the task.
The programme also included a workshop on interview and CV writing skills. The students created their own CVs and received advice on how they could strengthen and improve them. Feedback showed that students felt more confident in recognising the skills they can bring to the workplace.
Thank you to Chingford Foundation High School and Local London for your collaboration and to our Axis CLC volunteers who shared their expertise.
