Project Details

Axis completed an external wall insulation render systems (EWI) project for our client Walsall Housing Group. Our housing team took on the scope of installing EWI render systems at 93 properties throughout the Walsall area. The team carried out the works which were successfully won through a mini-tender within the Walsall Housing Group’s ‘Buy For Good’ framework.

Our housing division ensured that all of the properties remained undisturbed and functional throughout the project. We surveyed all of the properties before any works began and this allowed us to identify any special requirements, as well as future commitments some of the tenants may have had. We did this to reduce disruptions to residents and minimise any access issues.

Prior to the works commencing, rainwater gutters and downpipes were taken down. We later refitted pipework into the gullies. The full exterior of the buildings were secured with an external wall insulation render system, designed to mimic the existing brick. Alongside reducing heat loss and improving the energy efficiency of the properties, the insulation also reduces condensation levels. Window repairs and replacements were also carried out as part of the programme. Our team worked on houses in sets of 4, also taking into account party wall legislation. We covered a variety of property types with a mixture of low-rise houses and flats.

We conducted the process with a high level of communication between our team and the residents, which was maintained throughout the project. The team also hosted a community day in the middle of the works where residents were able to hear about progress updates. We also provided the presence of an on-site Resident Liaison Officer throughout the 22-week duration of the project.
