Project Details
The Metropolitan Police commissioned Axis as the Principal Contractor to complete this full refurbishment project at their Hornsey station. Our dedicated public sector team have been tasked with both internal and external works, including the adjoining buildings, to create a larger yard and additional parking space.
Our team began the project with the demolition of four buildings, whilst maintaining the structural integrity of the adjoining buildings. We provided an internal strip-out which included the re-routing of the plumbing, heating, electrical and ventilation systems in order to service the facility. The team brought in specialist cutting equipment for the purpose-built cell block, which was required to remove the metal and timber-clad surface structure to the reinforced walls and cell doors.
We then completed further internal works, such as the conversion of a kitchen into locker rooms and demolition of a CID office. We stabilised the remaining building with new structural foundations and a timber frame. The team then constructed a linked corridor, followed by the installation of a new roof and lighting. Our team also constructed a new public entrance, incorporating new doors, steps and DDA compliant handrails. We then provided internal finishing works, which included the installation of a suspended ceiling, flooring and redecoration. Our programme of external works to the facility included remedial repairs to an unserviceable underground drainage system.
As part of this full refurbishment project, we undertook additional groundworks to the adjoining yard and incorporated resurfacing to the lower and upper car parks. This created additional parking spaces, new parking bays, lighting, cycle shed and confidential waste units.
