Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship

INTRODUCTION:

We’re proud to share that Bronwen Shand has achieved a distinction in her End Point Assessment (EPA) — the final stage of her apprenticeship journey. Bronwen started as a Trainee Administrator at Axis, and has now become a fully qualified Administrator. Over the past two years, Bronwen has demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, and a strong desire to learn and grow. Find out more about Bronwen’s apprenticeship journey here:

To start, could you tell us how long you’ve been with Axis?

I have been at Axis for two years.

Could you explain a bit about the End Point Assessment (EPA), what it involves and why it’s such an important part of the apprenticeship ?

The End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final stage of the apprenticeship and an important part of the whole process. It’s designed to evaluate everything you’ve learned and to make sure you’re fully prepared for my role. The EPA assesses the  skills, knowledge, and behaviours against the apprenticeship standard. The EPA is made up of three main parts. The first part is the Knowledge Test, which is an online test with 50 multiple-choice questions. This assessed  my understanding of the key concepts and knowledge I’ve gained during my apprenticeship.

The second part is the Portfolio-Based Discussion. In this part, I talked through the portfolio I built throughout my apprenticeship. I discuss the skills and behaviours I’ve developed and provide real examples of how I’ve applied them in the workplace. The final part is the Project Presentation. For this, I completed a project and then delivered a presentation explaining how I managed it, the challenges I faced, and the skills I demonstrated throughout the process. I found the EPA to be a great opportunity to showcase everything I’ve . It gave me the chance to reflect on my progress and demonstrate the value I can bring to my role and my future career.

What is the official title of apprenticeship?

The title of the apprenticeship is Level 3 Business Administration.

How do you feel about your achievement?

I felt very proud when I found out I had achieved a distinction. It was a moment of real accomplishment and recognition of all the hard work I had put in. This achievement has boosted my confidence and motivated me to keep striving for excellence. I’ve also developed valuable skills that will benefit me throughout my career.

Do you have any tips to fellow apprentices who are just starting out or preparing for their own EPA?

My biggest tip for fellow apprentices who are just starting out or preparing for their EPA is to ask for help whenever you need it. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your mentors, trainers, or colleagues — they’ve all been in your position and can offer valuable guidance and support. It’s also important to stay organised. Plan your tasks, set clear goals, and keep track of your progress throughout your apprenticeship. This will make things much easier when it comes to building your portfolio and preparing for your assessments. Take time to regularly reflect on your learning — think about what’s going well, what you could improve, and how you’re applying your knowledge and skills in real situations. Lastly, keep a positive mindset and manage your time effectively. There will be challenges along the way, but consistency, focus, and determination make a huge difference. Remember, every step is part of your growth, and by staying proactive and seeking support, you’ll set yourself up for success in your EPA and beyond.

Alongside your apprenticeship, we hear you’re also getting involved in some charity work. Could you expand on this and what it entails?

Alongside my apprenticeship, I’m also planning to get involved in charity work. In a few years’ time, I hope to run the London Marathon in support of Demelza, a charity that provides care and support for seriously ill children and their families. It’s something I’m really passionate about and I’m looking forward to challenging myself while raising money for a great cause.
