Canterbury City Council awards Axis Fire Safety Works Contract
Canterbury City Council awarded Axis a £2m contract to conduct Fire Safety Works at Windsor House, Belmont Road, Whitstable Kent. Additional works here will include water tank and extract ventilation replacement and renewal of roof coverings.
Windsor House is a 12 storey, 36-metre-high residential high-rise block containing 70 flats in use as an Independent Living Scheme for the over 55s.
Canterbury City Council’s Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW) highlighted the requirement to install vertical fire breaks at third party wall locations within the existing cladding system at Windsor House.
Canterbury City Council proposed additional works to take place concurrently. These works are:
- Replacement of the existing flat roofing system with a Triflex system (seamless, cold liquid applied waterproofing, surfacing and coating systems for flat roofs) and associated enabling works
- Replacement of two galvanised steel water tanks within the plant room with a single reduced size Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) alternative
- Replacement of the existing extract vents on the roof
