Axis wins Community Engagement Project of the Year award at the Construction News Awards 2026.
The award recognises Axis's people-first approach to delivering a major refurbishment and retrofit programme across three occupied 18-storey social housing blocks at Lewisham Park Towers for our client L&Q.
Alongside extensive improvements including External Wall Insulation, roof replacements, UPVC window installations, fire safety enhancements, kitchens, bathrooms and M&E upgrades, the project achieved 95% resident satisfaction through exceptional communication, engagement and community support.
Construction News Awards judges praised the project for placing residents at the centre of delivery, demonstrating how meaningful engagement can enhance both the customer experience and project outcomes.
Winners were selected by an independent panel of more than 100 senior industry experts, making the accolade one of the UK's most respected honours in construction.
Rositsa Kormeva, Divisional Operations Manager, led the £22 million refurbishment programme and collected the award on behalf of Axis. She said:
"What an incredible moment celebrating Lewisham Park Towers being recognised as Community Engagement Project of the Year at the Construction News Awards.
"As someone who has been part of this journey from the very beginning, I couldn't be prouder of what our team has achieved. This project has always been about so much more than delivering a refurbishment programme. Yes, we improved homes, enhanced energy performance, and delivered a major retrofit transformation, but the real success was the relationships built with the residents and the community we became part of along the way.
"From creating a welcoming Residents' Hub, running wellbeing and community activities, supporting vulnerable residents, introducing initiatives to improve communication and inclusion, and making sure residents felt heard throughout their journey, the team truly put people at the heart of everything we did.
"I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together. This award is a reflection of the teamwork, commitment and genuine care shown by everyone involved.
"Projects like Lewisham Park Towers remind me that the true measure of success isn't only in what we build or improve, but in the positive impact we leave on the people who call these places home."
