Axis completed this police building project for the Metropolitan Police Service in Streatham, South London. Our public sector team took on this contract to convert a derelict two-storey retail unit on Streatham High Road into a new operational Police Station. We took on works which included replacing the retail shopfront with a more traditional Police Station façade and entrance.

Project Details

Because of the retail unit, this alteration work required the remodelling and repurposing of the full building. Our team constructed new interview rooms and a new entrance and reception. We built a bespoke counter and waiting areas for this area. As well as this, we also constructed a new kitchen, plant, and kit room. Once this phase was completed, the team then went on to fit the offices and stairwells, as well as a new landing. We finished this contract with new WC and shower facilities.

Also, our team stripped out the internal fabric of the building to shell and core. This included specialist asbestos removal, minor demolition and structural stabilisation works. As a result of this work we were able to follow-up with the mechanical and electrical elements. Our team installed each of the utilities such as gas, electric, fire detection and specialist data systems, which we designed and installed throughout the building.

As part of this police building project, the fit-out included suspended ceilings, new stud partitions, flooring, plumbing and sanitary ware. Our work on the new entrance included a high security front reception counter with an automated anti-attack screen and glass privacy enclosure. We completed the interiors with a full redecoration.
