The opening of a new community space for the Housing residents of Holmsdale estate.

The 24th October marked the opening of a new community space for Gateway Housing residents of Holmesdale House Estate.

Axis and its team are always committed to going to extra mile, the work that took place at Holmesdale estate was no exception. Axis where carrying out works on the Holmesdale estate when they were approached by Marie Duval. One of the site supervisors who had been speaking with our clients at Gateway housing. Our clients asked Marie and her team if they could renovate a derelict basement area for the benefit of the residents.

Gateway hoped to make the most of the space’s potential and requested a new community hall. The previous community space was restrictive in size and impractical for residential events and social gatherings.

Marie Duval commented saying: “The community space is a usable space for all of the residents to come to have parties. It brings the community together in one space. Working alongside the residents that live on the estate has been amazing. They’ve all been really polite, and it has been a really nice project to work on”.

Gateway Housing’s CEO, Kate Dodsworth, commented:

It’s a real privilege as a community organisation to be down here seeing how the space can be used. It’s rewarding seeing the look on people’s faces when they see it for the first time. Working with Axis has been brilliant. As a community Housing Association, it’s really important to us that we build strong partnerships and that we do more than just build and mend homes. Working with Axis has been great to fulfil this.

The residents have already been making great use of the new space. One of the residents, Muna Mohammed, commented that the community space was fully booked with classes and after school clubs from the day it was completed right up until Christmas.
