Project Details

Kings Chelsea is a residential estate housing nine blocks (Clark, Coleridge, Mathison, Bredin, Francis, Bailey, Lucas, Benham and Blore) of 275 flats and 22 houses. The properties were converted from the former college campus of Kings College. Our internal redecoration works covered all internal common parts throughout the blocks, across the estate and even including the car park.

Our heritage team were contracted to conduct redecoration works throughout all internal common parts of the estate. The scope of the project included specialist woodwork, joinery works and plastering to restore the listed building’s condition and create a more attractive living space for residents.

During the grade 2 listed building restoration works, the team applied specialist woodworks to the doors, panels, skirting and handrails. We stripped all previous lacquer coatings back to bare timber and prepared surfaces for dye and new coating. We employed a French polisher to repair impact damage as well.

We also painted metalwork to staircase balustrades. We undertook remedial repairs to the fire doors and upgraded smoke and heat protection. Our team installed Polyflor Polysafe Verona heavy-duty safety flooring in the fire corridors. We worked around the carpet fitters to allow them to fit the carpets as we were laying the floors.

The team also repaired, plastered and painted the ceilings and walls alongside the joinery works to windows and doors. We undertook general cleaning and repairs, replacing ironmongery on doors, removing redundant wall lighting and making good before redecoration. We refitted and upgraded the kitchen in the staff room as well. In addition to painting external masonry, we painted railings, secure gates and the bin stores.
