Working with William Martin Property Consultants Ltd, Axis completed a comprehensive fire protection upgrade at Union Central Building, a mixed-use property in Hoxton, East London. The project aimed to improve fire safety compliance across residential areas on the upper floors and commercial premises below, following a specification prepared by the client’s fire consultants in conjunction with the London Fire Brigade. Works included a new wet sprinkler system, dry risers, fire stopping, compartmentation improvements and fire door replacements, delivered while the building remained occupied.

Axis delivered the works in a fully occupied building, with commercial tenants on the lower floors and residents above. Regular weekly site visits, structured meetings and close co-ordination with the Resident Liaison Manager helped maintain access and minimise disruption.

The curved atria presented access challenges for installing sprinkler pipework and associated infrastructure. Axis developed a specialist scaffolding solution to enable the work to be completed safely in both atria. The team also coordinated the installation of the new sprinkler system and dry risers alongside extensive fire stopping, compartmentation and security improvements, while maintaining access for residents and commercial tenants.
