Project Details
Axis was employed to complete a planned cyclical decoration programme for our client, Gravesham Borough Council. Our repairs and maintenance division carried out this large-scale project at over 800 properties in the Gravesham area, which consisted of various building types like social housing, care Homes and leaseholders sheltered accommodation. Our scope of work included external and internal decorating alongside some repairs and providing fire upgrades to communal areas.
We have been in partnership with Gravesham Borough Council for nearly a decade and have recently delivered works such as a cyclical redecoration programme, fire upgrades, and replacement of soffits and facias in UPVC. We won this contract through the South East Consortium Framework and tender process.
The team utilised a Crown Trade Timonox fire retardant coating in the process of the fire upgrades in communal areas. We also required the use of cherry pickers and scaffolding to complete the project.
We added value to this planned cyclical decoration project by painting the community lounge at Merston Court. This came as a responsible business initiative, alongside our team painting benches at Claremont Place and Blenheim Grove. Community is one of our core values at Axis.
Project Challenges
We faced the challenge of weather, as Gravesham has a very cold and damp climate, in which snow and cold temperatures caused delays in our painting work. Another challenge was COVID and ensuring the safety of shielding and venerable residents, which was secured through great work from our dedicated resident liaison officers.
The client wanted Axis to achieve 100% of the cyclical decorations in a reduced amount of time due to the COVID delayed commencement of works, until July. Our team ensured this schedule was achieved by hiring additional labour. Additionally, we worked on some weekends with the client’s approval. Axis’ strength in flexibility allowed us to adapt to changes in the scheduled programme of work.
