Supporting Vulnerable Young People: Attending Peabody’s Careers Event
David Leonard Attends Peabody’s Careers Carousel to Support Potential NEET Students
On Thursday 10th October, David Leonard, Apprentice Mentor, represented Axis at Peabody’s Careers Carousel in Thamesmead!
This event was hosted at the Moorings Social club to provide year 10 students with more perspective and knowledge about career experience.
The 120 students in attendance are at risk of entering NEET (not in education, employment, or training) and this event offered an insight into different companies and lines of work! There were representatives from employers across the building industry, health industry, finance industry and more.
The main goal of this event isn’t like your typical careers fair, its purpose is to share guidance on overcoming adversity, career tips, career experience and make opportunities seem more accessible. It was run in a speed date meeting style to get the students involved across all industries whilst having fun doing it! They had 12 minutes at each table to ask as many questions as they wanted.
When asked about the day, Nadia Kassab, Young Peoples Project Officer for Peabody, said ‘David was a big hit! It was wonderful to have Axis at Thamesmead, and I hope David enjoyed the day as much as well did.’
David added ‘The students were all polite, they were nice kids. I had some really good interactions with a few and had a second meeting with 4 of them after they showed promise – I am awaiting their CVs! Overall, a success.’
Thank you so much to David for his wonderful contribution to the day, Axis are proud to be represented at such an amazing event! Thank you to Peabody for inviting us and we hope the students found it informative and helpful.
